New Parent Coffee Hacks
Share
As we look forward to our second daughter joining us this summer, we figured it was time to start thinking about some of those new parent hacks for coffee. With a new little one around, it can be difficult to break away to brew a fancy cup or really anything beyond instant. Here's some of our tips and tricks to getting a good cup to help you through sleepless nights.
1. Cold Brew in Bulk
Let’s be honest: mornings are chaos. And when you’re juggling diapers, bottles, and a baby who thinks sleep is optional, waiting 10 minutes for a pour-over just isn’t happening.
Solution: Cold Brew Concentrate
Make a big mason jar or french press of it at the start of the week — just coarse-ground coffee, water, and a little fridge space. Let it steep overnight, strain it, and you’ve got a ready-to-use elixir for any time of day. Pour it over ice, mix it with milk, or just shoot it straight if you’re deep in survival mode. It keeps for a week, tastes smooth, and delivers caffeine with zero effort when you need it most.
2. Coffee Ice Cubes
Sometimes we don't always make it to that last bit in the bottom of the bulk dripper. No need to throw this away though, you can save it for another time!
Solution: Freeze Leftover Brewed Coffee in Ice Cube Rrays.
Not only does this reduce waste, but it also turns every iced coffee into something worth sipping. No dilution, no disappointment — just a cold jolt of flavor that holds up while you bounce a baby or chase a toddler across the living room.
Pro tip: toss a few coffee cubes into a blender with milk or oat milk for a five-second frappé that feels fancy without the drive-thru.
3. Insulated Mugs for the Win
You may not be going on any sunrise hikes right now — unless we’re counting the early morning shuffle from crib to couch — but your insulated travel mug is still an MVP.
Keep it nearby, even if you’re just sipping coffee while buried in burp cloths. Unlike your old ceramic mug (which has now reheated the same half-cup of coffee three times), an insulated mug keeps your brew warm for hours — no reheating required, no microwave roulette. It’s one small luxury that feels like a win when everything else is unpredictable.
So dust off that fancy tumbler and put it back in action. Your adventure trail might look more like a hallway strewn with toys, but the caffeine journey continues.
4. Hydrate While You Caffeinate
You’re running on fumes. Maybe you’ve forgotten to drink water today (or yesterday). But here’s a sneaky fix: combine hydration with your coffee.
Try this:
- ¾ cold brew concentrate
- ¼ coconut water or electrolyte-infused water
It’s refreshing, energizing, and a lot gentler on your system than your fourth straight espresso shot. Plus, it helps you stay ahead of that dehydration headache that’s just waiting to crash your nap window.
It’s like multitasking in a cup — and if you’ve got a newborn, multitasking is basically your whole identity now.
